| A New Home for the Art Alliance
The new Art Center (officially the refurbished Dishong-Bowen Historic House) was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, January 14, 2006.
The building is adjacent to the Teacherage Historic House, the new home of the Historical Society and the Women's Club Thrift Shop (Boca Bargains.) The two buildings share a public bathroom. The buildings were totally refurbished by Lee County at a cost of $1.3 million. The Art Center part was originally built in the 1930s on East Railroad Avenue, and moved by the fire department to its present location at 236 Banyan Street. The County donated the renovated building to the Boca Grande Art Alliance. Art Alliance President Toni Wolcott participated in the ribbon cutting and gave a few short remarks.

| Spring Show The annual Spring Show (March 18-19) was once again a great success. A large crowd at the Member's Reception (March 17) enthusiastically bought many pieces of art work. A new feature was held in the lovely decorated entrance tent; coffee, donuts, and guitar music for the Sunday morning visitors. Our thanks to our resident photographer, Dr. Russ Stewart. He began our web site five years ago and diligently recorded our events and exhibitions. We now have another webmaster, Bruce Komusin from Cranberry Island, Maine and Venice, FL. Dr. Stewart has kindly agreed to continue to furnish photos of our activities. Additional photo submissions of Art Alliance happenings will be considered. Please give them to our director, Carlene Stewart.

| Student Show First show in our new headquarters a great success! The first annual Student Exhibit (April 8-9) was a first for the new Art Center, as well. Over 50 art students and their instructors showed paintings, mosaics, baskets, jewelry, sculpture, quilts, and textiles in the well-lit facility. All the rooms were used for the exhibit, as well as the outside deck. The exhibit screens were hung from the ceiling, allowing exhibits to cover the windows. Carlene and her helpers hung it very attractively, and it was easy to view the art works. Everyone marveled at the quality of work done by our students.
